Our mission is to provide food to the residents of the Vernon Parish. We are a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization.
How Did We Get Here? When I was a little girl growing up in Deridder, Louisiana in the 1960’s, I remember my mother always feeding the young men that were homeless. They would come around to the back of the house, by the kitchen, and knock on the door and say, “Mrs. Sylvia do you have anything that you can give me to eat?” I would always wonder how she found them something since we didn’t have a lot of money. My dad was a pastor and it was 9 of us children to feed. But she always did. It reminds me of that scripture, “Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee” She was just giving them what she had. I have always remembered my mom’s example. My husband and I have tried to live our lives giving what we have to the least and the lost. We have over the years committed to helping others and we know that God has called us into the ministry of helps. We have, throughout our marriage, helped others within our community and within our church family. We are committed to helping others rise as the scripture above goes on to say. Our desire is to lessen the hunger within our community, especially with children. We decided to do what we knew we were called to do and open an outreach, but we needed a name.
